The milestone was marked by a special event attended by West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin, Calderdale Council Leader Councillor Dan Sutherland, Councillor Darren Commons, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport and senior leaders from the Environment Agency and Calderdale Council as well as other partners, celebrating the completion of major improvements at Wellholme Park as part of the Brighouse Flood Alleviation Scheme (FAS).
The event recognised not only the return of a much-loved green space, but also the long-term benefits these works bring in helping to protect the area from future flooding.
Following the official reopening, the celebrations continued with a Community Day on 29 July, welcoming residents back into the park.

The day offered a chance for people to see first-hand how the park has been transformed, while learning more about how these improvements will benefit the area for years to come.
Reopening during Love Parks Week, Wellholme Park’s return highlights the importance of protecting and enhancing green spaces, while representing a major investment in local infrastructure designed to reduce flood risk and improve the park’s natural environment and accessibility.
