Projects Overview

Find out more about the Environments Agency’s commitment to deliver a programme of work to reduce flood risk in Calderdale.

Flood alleviation scheme

Since the Boxing Day floods in 2015, the Environment Agency has been working to repair existing assets and investigate new flood alleviation schemes. We have developed a programme of work to further reduce the risk to properties and businesses throughout the Valley. Working in partnership with Calderdale Council and our Delivery Partners, we are developing a number of projects that are at various stages in the project lifecycle. To help illustrate the progress of the programme, we have produced a presentation. Click here to view the presentation.

The presentation provides useful background information about each of the projects within the current programme, along with the stage of development and the project team responsible. It also provides an explanation as to the different stages that a scheme will go through internally in order to progress, where feasible, to construction, i.e. SOC (Strategic Outline Case), OBC (Outline Business Case) and FBC (Full Business Case).

Working with Calderdale communities

As part of our delivery of the Calder Valley Flood Alleviation Schemes, BAM Nuttall have made a commitment to deliver social value through everything that we do. We aim to leave a positive legacy in the communities where we work.

Schools

We have engaged with a number of local high schools including Trinity Academy Grammar, Sowerby Bridge and Todmorden High School. We’re delivering workshops, assemblies and supporting careers events to inspire local children to consider careers in construction and engineering. We’ll continue building these relationships with schools and local organisations, finding ways to support young people during our time working in Calderdale.

Community Engagement

Our team are enjoying becoming part of the fantastic communities in Calderdale, supporting organisations such as The Rotary Club of Hebden Bridge, Calder Community Cares, Hebden Bridge Flood Action Group, Halifax Rotary Club, and Royd Regeneration.

BAM Nuttall is also providing opportunities for local suppliers within the Calder Valley, as well as local employment opportunities, apprenticeships and work experience placements.
