Community Support Hubs

In the event of a serious flood or other emergency, Calderdale Council will open Community Support Hubs to assist affected communities.

What are Community Support Hubs?

These hubs are safe spaces where you can get help and advice during a crisis. They are run by the Council alongside emergency services and local partners. A hub can provide:

  • Clean-up equipment

  • Food and water

  • General assistance and emotional support

Where are they located?

Because Hubs are set up in response to specific emergencies, their locations change. The Council chooses sites based on where the flooding is worst and where it is safest for the public to travel. Virtual Hubs -are used if a physical building isn't safe or needed, help may be provided online or via phone instead. In some areas of the Upper Calder Valley, which are more frequently affected by floods, there are well-established plans for specific buildings to serve as Hubs.

How do I find out where my local Hub is?

If a flood occurs, locations will be posted immediately on social media channels and the latest news section of this website.

Important travel advice

Do not drive to a Hub during a flood. Driving through floodwater is extremely dangerous for the following reasons:

  • Floodwater and mud hide missing manhole covers and deep debris.

  • It only takes a small amount of water to stall an engine or sweep a car away.

What to do if you cannot reach a hub

If you are stuck or cannot travel safely, you can still get help:

Council teams will then coordinate the support you need.
