More than 20 people from across Hebden Royd attended a flood resilience event at Hebden Bridge Town Hall, organised by the Hebden Bridge Business Forum and the Environment Agency, to help strengthen local business preparedness and community connections. The event brought together business owners, flood wardens, flood risk professionals, and insurance experts for an evening focused on practical action.

The session aimed to increase awareness of flood risk and provide local businesses with the knowledge and tools needed to prepare for future flooding. Attendees learned about:

  • Business flood plans
  • Flood warning services and flood sirens
  • Online river level monitoring
  • Flood insurance
  • Property flood resilience measures

The event also highlighted the importance of taking action before flooding occurs. Simple steps taken now can help reduce disruption, protect staff, and support a faster recovery after a flood event.

Practical Advice and Local Support

A flood exercise gave attendees the chance to think about how they would respond during an emergency and identify actions they could take to improve their preparedness. Local flood wardens attended the event and shared their experiences of supporting communities during severe weather. A local insurance broker also provided advice and answered questions about flood cover and claims. The evening created valuable opportunities for businesses to connect, share experiences, and learn from one another.

Working Together for a More Resilient Hebden Royd

The event was organised by the Hebden Royd Business Forum and demonstrated the strong commitment across the area to improving flood resilience. With more than 20 attendees representing businesses from across Hebden Royd, the evening was a positive step towards creating a better-prepared business community.
