£450k scheme to better protect Burnley Road Academy from flooding

29th November 2023 News

Adaption work to make Burnley Road Academy in Mytholmroyd more resilient to flooding is now complete. The school was severely damaged following the devastating floods of Boxing Day 2015 and February 2020 when 2,781 homes and 1,008 businesses were affected throughout Calderdale.

The project involved Property Flood Resilience (PFR) measures in and around the school including the installation of puddle pumps, sump pumps, air brick covers, flood barriers, flood gates, a flood door, non-return valves, as well as re-pointing and rendering the walls.  Partnership working between the Environment Agency, Department for Education and Calderdale Council means that the school is now more resilient to the impacts of climate change.  Design and construction of the PFR measures were completed by Watertight International.
