We’re delighted to announce that Wellholme Park will officially reopen mid-July, following a programme of significant improvements delivered through the Brighouse Flood Alleviation Scheme (FAS).
Be part of the celebration
To mark the reopening, the Environment Agency will be hosting a Community Day on 29 July, from 10am to 2pm. Whether you’re visiting with family, friends, or simply exploring your local park, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
- Scavenger hunts for young explorers.
- The opportunity to meet the project team and learn about the park’s new features and enhancements.
- Information stalls explaining the improvements and long-term benefits.
- Plenty of space to relax, unwind, and reconnect with nature.
This celebration also coincides with Love Parks Week, making it the perfect opportunity to rediscover one of your favourite green spaces.
A park designed for the future
The reopening of Wellholme Park is about more than new paths and enhanced spaces; it marks an important step forward in building flood resilience. This project shows how essential flood defence infrastructure can work hand in hand with community spaces, delivering both environmental protection and a better experience for visitors. The improvements were carefully designed to:
- Reduce flood risk while protecting homes, infrastructure and local businesses.
- Safeguard and enhance valuable public green space.
- Improve accessibility, landscaping and natural features across the park.
- Introduce infrastructure designed to manage water flow during extreme weather.
