Check for flooding

Did you know almost 5 million people in England are at risk of flooding? Even if you don't live near a river, you may still be affected.

You can check your flood risk online or by calling Floodline on 0345 988 1188.

By following the link you will find maps showing current flood warnings, forecasts for the next five days and the long term flood risk from rivers, surface water and reservoirs. Check your flood risk from time to time, including when your home insurance policy is due for renewal.

Check your risk of flooding from other sources

Impacts from run-off and flash flooding are more difficult to predict and are becoming increasingly common due to climate change. Calderdale's steep-sided valleys make us particularly susceptible to these risks.

If you're concerned about these types of flooding, you might find the following sources of information helpful for checking your flood risk:

Local knowledge – contact your local flood group or ask your neighbours about previous floods. Alternatively, your local library, community centre or place of worship may be able to help.
Environment Agency - check the flood map for planning
Calderdale Council - visit the environmental map and check ‘flood risk asset register’
Commercial property search - for advice on providers of these services, please see the Council of Property Search Organisations (CoPSO)
