The Environment Agency will sound the Flood Warning Siren in Walsden on Tuesday 30/07/2024 between 10:45am – 11:00am. Please note that it is only the Walsden siren is being tested at this time.
Following recent critical maintenance carried out by Northern Powergrid to the power supply for the Flood Siren in Walsden, we need to carry out a test to ensure that the siren is in full working order. The siren will sound for two minutes. When the siren is sounded on this day it is a test. If a siren is sounded at any other time, it should be treated seriously and you should take action.
If the Environment Agency is in incident mode or poor weather is forecast on the day, the test will be postponed until Thursday 01 August. We run the siren test to check the audibility of these key flood resilience measures and use the occasion to raise awareness of flood risk in affected communities. For more information or if you have any questions about the siren testing, please contact us at [email protected].
The Flood Warning Siren is the secondary way we warn and inform flood risk communities. Our principal way of informing communities is through the Environment Agency’s Flood
Warning Service. The Flood Warning Service gives advanced notification when flooding is expected via phone, text and email. Those who sign up can manage their registrations so
that they can receive warnings wherever they are.
