Rochdale Road will be closed overnight tomorrow (1 April) so that emergency repairs can be carried out to the culvert on Walsden Water, next to Shade Chapel.
The road will be closed temporarily from midnight on Wednesday until 6am Thursday to allow several large pieces of equipment to be transported to the site.
The culvert is currently undergoing emergency repairs to prevent its collapse and the subsequent risk of flooding.
The Environment Agency, with support from BAM contractors, are installing an over-pumping arrangement to allow the diversion of the river around the culvert so that a full inspection and remedial work can start to be carried out safely with dry access to the site.
We will be progressing with the temporary work as quickly as possible to restore stability ahead of permanent repairs in the near future.
Access along the road during this time will be still be allowed for emergency services but normal traffic will need to follow the diversion route which will be signposted.
This work is a vital part of the urgent works needed to reduce the flood risk to the area. We apologise for the short notice of this work and any inconvenience this causes.
